Good Morning Y'all.... Crazy weekend for us. Needed to go out into that fire area here in SO-CAL. One of our kids needed taking care of. So we allot of back road driving to get to were we needed to be, and take care of things and then drive back out. Lot of folks have lost everything they own. Kids place is in good shape, But what a chore to get too them and then get home. All I can really say, Is that I am Glad the Lord is on my side, Couldn't do it without him. AMEN.
I know how you feel when your young and dont have a place or the help to learn those project... Money was most of my short falls also... Bit I sure made up for it when I finally got rolling.....Hahahahaha

Bob
Glad you made it back safe and everyone is fine. It is hard for me to comprehend the size of these fires and the amount of loss. Between the hurricanes and fires its been a rough year for a lot of families.

Bob I was watching the national news yesterday about the fires and thought about you and yours, California is a big state and was hoping it wasn't in your neighborhood.
Glad things are ok.

Thanks Guys, Turned out ok.. Went in one way. But had to get out another. Made for a long day of driving however.. This event is about 60 miles from my location... So not close to us. I want to say its about 8 mile out from the kids place. But when you are trying to get to them and you run into this kind of stuff. It sure make you ask mother nature, Are you sure your doing the rite thing here? Hat's off to all them Men and Women that tackle this fires with the winds... Amazing work..

Working on Shawn's 1995 V Max snowmobile, taking out the 121" skid frame adding a 136" and reverse from my old DX that we stripped down and retired a few years ago. Next the RX 1 comes in for his 121" track to go on it and refresh the front suspension and chain case inspection and probably front drive bearings.

He says probably two to four weeks before I get back on the race car. If it snows I still have the little 500cc Arctic Cat to go out on.

Finely warmed up a little here in northern Iowa but it's calling for rain in today's forecast.

I've been thinking about going out and oiling and rolling over all my project motors. The ones that are on stands I actually turn over to move oil around internally and then turn over at the crank. I use motor oil to lube upper cylinders although my buddys tell me to use ATF, they say it's more of a rust inhibitor.
Bob or Dan how would you store motors long term?

Good Morning Y'all....Going to bee a nice day here in SO-CAL 70* and a few clouds...
Tom, I use to keep some motors here 'ready to go'. But I have not been doing as much work as of lately. Long story short, I dont have a large shop anymore, I have been just working out of the home garage and doing some of the smaller one day jobs. My work however (Government Job) will not allow us to use their stuff, without getting fired.
Anyway, to answer the question. Hummm, The stuff that stayed together was mostly street stuff, You know daily driver units... Those I just used WD40 in about 4 times a year or every 4 mouths and then rolled them over and reshot them with WD40.
All my Hi-Per stuff may have been somewhat assembled, but never fully. I always wanted a good cleaning and fresh seals before those went together. But on the other hand if those motors were going to sit a month or so, I would just undone the valvetrain and then readjust them when i got told my customer was coming to pick it up.
Other than that, it was just "light it off and send it"

The reason I got into my big 440 was it had been freshened up and never run, the cylinders were good as was most everything else but the cam, springs and lifters. There was a small amount of rust on the inner block but nothing really. I back off the rockers and just lube the xxxx out of everything. Now everything is dynoed before it goes into hibernation so it's been fully lubed.

My 289 for the Fairlane might get pulled back apart this spring, one reason is it has to come back out of the car and it has been assembled for about six years. I would also like to try a Victor intake on it and just a little more cam. I'd like to see if 500hp is doable with 292cid., we'll see.
Hope you've got a great weekend planned Bob, hows your Mrs. doing?

Tom, I think we both know that (Rust Never Sleeps).....lol
So I just was taught to always keep it clean before it go's together and dont trust anything after a long sit. "Dam Rats and Mice". It will come back and bit you in the butt... Dont get me wrong, I have thrown some stuff together that should not have lived and did.
Short story.... When I was in High School... In our Automotive shop, i had good teachers that seen what I could do and put me to the test.... and... Well, took advantage of my abilities as a young man...lol
So, I take beganing auto shop. we learn on Briggs & Stratton 4-HP, after leaning these. I was a teaches aid... Well guess who got to take all these apart and put them back together running for the next semester? Yep good old Bob..
Then we went to the advanced class "Vocational Auto" and performed the same duty with 12 Small Block Chevy's that needed to be fired for the next time. It was one of those things the teach's went threw the whole year from start to finish. In the beginning of the year. You started your engine. Went and tore it down and learn all the ins and outs and put it back together and started it at the year end and whoever's started first got a pizza. All the one that did not start... Well Bob got them all running before next semester.. Sooooo. Yep,, I had a lot of builds under my belt and no blow ups....lol (ok, that I know of to this day) lol

Wife is feeling a tad bit better. She is up and around a little more. Cant really go out and do much. But getting better a little each day. I'm Hopping the doctors will find out and handle the problem. But man, They sure take there sweet time getting ready for next round!!!! But she is still complaining of a lot of pain in her lower extremities. But thank you for asking and keeping us in your thoughts

Cool......
One cool project we also did was a 1967 Ford Sunbeam Tiger. Built a nice little Gale Banks 334 motor for it.... Fast and Fun little booger.... Kind of looked like this but was Yellow in color.
Wally (Gales Cylinder Head Guru) was a simi close friend of mine back in the day before he passed. A true man at porting heads in his time.

We also Hot Rodded an 1967 Ford Bronco and put a 351 Cleveland Motor in that one... Talk about a Cowboys ride! A true Beast !!!! OXOXOXOXOXOX

For the most part yes .... But Ford did a limited amount of 289's... Cool thing was, this was one of them... So it made the change over pretty easy.... But by that time it was not a new game for me.... I had already swapped out a 260 for a 289 and C-3 trans in a 1965 Ford Falcon Wagon.... It was my sisters car... That car ran like a bat out of hell....lol...

Cold snowy this week, raining and 3'C today. I hate when our weather does this flip flop.

Went for cataract eye surgery this morning and they added a lens to correct vision. My sight is amazing and only to get better as it heals. Next Friday I get the other eye done and am looking forward to snowmobiling without glasses and not fogging up.

Two weeks of doing nothing and staying away from dust and smoke, I hope I don't go crazy not being able to fab or weld.
