Ignition system suggestions?

Hello everyone
Ive been checking ebay and summit trying to find a ignition system for my 68 coronet with a 318. I plan on running my 318 for a while until i can afford to get my hands on a 440. I found several nameless ignition kits online going for about 140. Anyone have any history with these? Also i see that the mallory and msd kits go for around 600 +. It it worth putting a expensive ignition set up on a little mild 318 build?

i will NOT say anything against what bob said. but if you go with the chrysler electronic ignition, DO get two ballast resistor and put them in the glove box. as they tend to go out in the heat and cold. i had one bolted under the hood next to the that was being used.

I agree with this.

Talk to DDodger, he sold ballast resistors for 17 years so he probably knows what's best for over all ignition systems.

Your snide remark is not appreciated. All I can relate is my experience. Some of you wringing your hands keeping a dozen ballasts in the glove box has NOT been my experience.

Having said that I would not necessarily run a Mopar system, mostly because of recent chinese parts. I like to be able to buy stuff at the local store, if needed. This lets stuff like mallory, MSD, etc out, and Pertronix.

Lots of guys run Pertronix, they seem to be reliable. But if they DO quit you are going to be without repair parts unless you bought TWO of them when you installed the thing.

For myself I simply run an old HEI module, hooked to a Mopar distributor. One of the guys over at A Bodies actually put the thing inside an empty Mopar box.
