Interesting Swap Meet factory 4-bbl Intake finds

At a recent swap meet I purchased two factory cast-iron 4-bbl intakes
for LA V8's..
Both are in good condition, and each is of a different design -
While both are dual plane types,
their carb mounting holes and plenums differ
(as do their choke stoves and other details).

The black manifold has narrower-spaced carb mounting holes
and the two-hole spreadbore-type plenum openings.
Casting numbers reveal this manifold to be from a 1972 340
(and there's a casting date of 11-11-71).
It has what appear to be blocked-off EGR ports in the plenum floor -
but they are blocked off so cleanly and smoothly
that it looks like a factory job.
And there is some sort of flange on the Driver's Side of the plenum area,
but it doesn't look like an EGR flange, because it has only one small
threaded hole, and below that, a roll pin that is inserted
into the lower hole..

Both holes are "blind" - IE: they hold vaccuum, they go nowhere.
Strange..
Someone said it may be a mounting point for an idle speed solenoid..
While black at present, this manifold appears to have been orange
at some point, and blue originally..

The blue manifold has widely-spaced carb mounting holes
and 4 seperate spreadbore-type holes at the top of the plenum.
This manifold has no EGR provisions at all (which is great),
and this is no surprise,
since the casting numbers reveal it to be from a 1968 340 (!!!)
I think that's pretty cool, since that's the first year for the 340,
and it will be installed on a '68 Polara..
it's kind of like a "numbers matching" manifold lol
(kinda sorta lol)..
This manifold appears to have always been blue -
it's present blue paint is peeling in spots,
and it is the same shade of blue underneath..

I intend to use the blue, 4-hole manifold on my Polara's 318.
I'll clean it up and paint it either red like the rest of the engine,
or a cast steel color.
I will then mount an Edelbrock Performer (Carter), 600 CFM,
electric choke, vacuum secondary spreadbore carb on top of it.
But all of this will be done after I replace the points
with Mopar Electronic Ignition
and install a dual exhaust system (with H-pipe).

Both of these manifolds are TALL
(as measured from the top of the head port flange
to the carb mounting surface) -
over 1" taller than the stock 2-bbl manifold on the 318 at present,
and over 1" taller than even the factory 4-bbl manifold
on the 350 in my '67 Impala..
Good thing the new 4-bbl carb's height is 1 1/2" lower
than the 2 bbl on the 318 at present.

swap meets are the bomb, good score man.

I have both of those too!
I also want to use the 4 hole manifold and the 1406 Carb.
