Mopar running on vegetable oil or biodiesel?
Hey All, I was wondering if there is a Mopar diesel drivetrain that could be made to fit into a 68 Barracuda coupe? I was reading about running alternative fuel at Greasecar.com and thought it would be cool to convert my 6-cyl car into one running on veg oil. I already plan on restoring the car to include a lot of modern features and doing away with old technology. I would like to stick with an automatic and rear wheel drive. This will be my daily driver (to replace my 97 Neon) and the cost of fuel is getting ridiculous. I'm more of a muscle engine guy and don't know much about what diesels there were/are.
I saw this on another site and thought a wreck could render a possible solution in the future.
Chrysler and Jeep Diesels
2006
(From Chrysler releases, provided by Doug Hetrick)
The Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Commander, and Chrysler 300C are available with a new 3-liter V6 common-rail diesel from Mercedes, featuring 2,000+ bar Bosch fuel injection, a variable geometry turbocharger, and four valves per cylinder; it meets Euro 4 standards without a particulate filter (though one is provided on the 300C). Maximum power is 160 kW (218 hp DIN) and peak torque is 510 N.m (376 lb.-ft.) from just 1800 rpm. The engine is mated to a Mercedes W5A580 automatic transmission, and weighs 208 kg / 459 lb. Fuel consumption with the 300C is 8.1 L/100 km, EU standard for sedan (8.3 for touring).

How big is the outside dimension of those engine like say compared to a 318/340/360? I've consider dropping in a modern 5.7L Hemi because they are physically comparable to these LA engines and they can bolt up to a SB 904 or 727. I was planning on using a RMS AlterKation frontend. They make them for the modern Hemis and they probably could set it up to install the diesel as well.
The idea of burning veggie oil is intriguing though. Power plus lubrication is not a bad combo. A Green Muscle Car haha.

I found some interesting specs on the newer 2005 diesels. They are a straight 6, the most powerful, quieter and last a very long time.
