do a compression test for starters. what else does it have? intake? pistons? headers? exhaust? The timing may need to be adlusted along with the carb. there could be some sludge or carbon build up.

Have you driven the car at all and if so, how far and on what type of streets?

it has aftermarkets pistion and manifold.....headers with 2.5 exhaust i have the timing adjusted already a few times and my old man said it was good were its at i drive the car everyday since about may of last year its normally aroud town on chicago streets .......

Your spark plugs can give you a pretty good idea of how your engine is tuned. look at the ceramic portion underneath the electrode,

Black,or sooty= rich
pure white = lean
a very light brown dusting= just right !

Always tune with the LEANEST PLUG !

If you have the time and or resources I would take the engine out to get a better look at things before you start demolishing imports. My 383 sat under a tree for 20 years and it ran just about perfect when I bought it. But when I took the engine out to have revatted amongst other things I found alot of gunk and stuff. So personally for peace of mind, grab a good friend or two and take a couple of hours to save your self some heart brake and money.
