Motor swap for 69 Fury Sport

Bear with me as I am a newbie.

69 Fury Sport, barn find, had it 2 yrs, 74,000, on odo but probably more, Christine type purchase from the old guy who's brother killed himself. Really, I'm serious.

383, 2bbl, 727 auto I had rebuilt in 08.

I knew in advance there would be a snowball of problems as this lady was brought back to life and they have occured as normal. We did a lot of preventive maintenance in the beginning and put about 3000 miles on it over 2 years and replaced stuff as it occured.

Engine has developed massive blowby. Did a leakdown test on #1 last night and had 40% drop. Compression test was around 70 psi cold. I stopped there and had a beverage.

I want to pick up a running engine to drop in to keep the car running over the next 6 months while I rebuild the original 383.

What can I buy to use as a doner engine/transmission? 318, 340, 440, etc.. Something simple and/or cheap. How much is involved?

What works with my tranny, motor mounts and driveline?

I have already done a JDM swap on my son's Prelude and have all the necessary support equipment, hoist, stand, etc....

Thanks in advance

Brent

Keep it simple? Stay with a big block. 383, and 400's especially, are dirt cheap. RV motors, etc. Good enough till the fresh one comes home.

Save the cash on the replacement motor. Roll that into the original motor in performance mods, freshen it up and have it back in place less than a month.

if the motor is done right, you can have it redone pretty quick, so there would be no need for a quick replacement motor

I agree. If you want to stay low budget just rebuild and do most of the machine stuff yourself. Valves yada aren't too expensive neither rings. Reuse the rest.

Or do a higher dollar rebuild. Sure you know what to do.

I've got an extra 440 HP motor somewhere if you're interested. Whatever the going rate is for a pull out.

Or buy some beer and invite the guys over for hotdogs and work. Good luck.
