Need help
 

I have a 69 plymouth satellite with a 318. I was driving home and just as I began to turn into my driveway, the engine quit . I coasted into the driveway, but couldn’t get it to start. I checked under the hood and upon taking the air filter off, I noticed that there seems to be gas leaking from the carb. There also seems to be some brown goo of some type covering the bottom of the bowl. I don’t know if this is why my car won’t start but I honestly know nothing about carburetors so I need some pointers. Any help would be very appreciated.

If it is a 2 barrel it is likely a BDD, one of my favourites and very simple to work on. Removing the top of carb will let you look in and see if it's gummed up, from your description it will need complete removal and disassembly. With the internet parts breakdowns and instructions will be easy to find.

Thanks I appreciate it. I don’t have a tacometer (don’t know how to spell it) or a vacuum gauge. Is there a way to get it running without them after I take apart the carb?

First make sure you have a spark.

Use carb cleaner on the carb as a first pass and see if the engine kicks.

Ok so I have no spark. After poking about the ignition system for a while, I checked the resistance of the coil (I made sure to disconnect it’s wires). It’s only reading 8,000 ohms and it should be 10-11,000. Do you think this is the cause?

Coil is probably ok. I would start by making sure the distributor is turning, & check for 12V on the + of the coil. KEY On . Check the ballast resistor mounted on the firewall. Put the motor on TDC for #1 and make sure the rotor is pointing to #1 on the dis cap..If you still have points I would also change the capacitor
