New to mopars and needing help

Whats up everyone my name is brandon and i just purchased a '68 Coronet station wagon with a pretty hot 440 in it. i have never worked on mopars before and i need some advice. i know its kinda dumb to buy a car without knowledge of what im workin with, but its a tubbed pro street car that i got a nice deal on so i couldnt pass it up. im tryin to find out how much timing to run so that i can use 90 octane pump gas. anyone have ideas where to start?

It depends on what you are talking about and what kind of ignition you have. On my 440, I have electronic ignition and with the vacuum port on the carb and dizzy plugged off, I am running 5 degrees BTDC. I leave the ports plugged. If I try and use the vacuum advance, it pings like hell. Keep in mind, my setup is new and I am still working out some bugs. The book says zero I believe, but again, it can depend on variables such as cam specs.

By the way, welcome!!!

POST PIC'S PLEASE!!! ... I want to see this beast indeed & welcome to the forum - Not dumb to buy a car without knowlage of it at all, every person at one time on this forum myself included had to learn and its all about trial & error, usually lots of error before you forget about how you think it works and discover exactly how it works - you will find quickly this site is full of very smart people when it comes to getting the job done properly and safely - 90 oct. is going to really limit total allowable timing on a motor, 8.5 or 9 compression ok its going to be pretty much ok but above that your going to be pinging long before you reach the optimal timing that you would get with higher oct. - it sounds like a wicked ride, a ride that should have top notch food & I would love to see it post some pic's please, Jake
