Newbie, Barracuda Tire advice.

Hello fellow Mopar Fanatics! Thanks for having me aboard!

I have a pleasent problem and I need some advice. I have a '74 Barracuda and next to my Wife and Kids it's the light of my life!
I have a nice set of restored Magnums with P235-70-sr14 TA's on them. It gives the car a great look and makes for a fairly aggressive stance. No problems whatsoever with them.
However,my Brother-in-law for my 50th birthday wants to give me a perfect set of Rally Wheels (not a mark on them, centers, rings and all) shod in P45-60-14 TA's from his '70 Road Runner.
Now I've got orig drums all around so I'm not too concerned about the wheels, but am a bit lost about the tire width up front?
Guys, should I accept the gift? Or am I looking at a technical difficulty here? Any help and advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated on this very lucky (for me that is) decision.
Best regards and Many thanks to any and all of you out there in Mopar Nation!
Remember, it's either Mopar or no car! Jumpugly

Welcome to the show.
First off, pics of your car.
2nd, are you concerned with the width vs turning radius ?

Polaradude!
Many thanks for the reply! I would have to say turning radius up front. I'd have a better feel for this if the tires/wheels were close by but they are on the other side of the country. Yow!
I'll try to upload a picture, just lousey at it, but I'll keep trying.
Thanks again!

No problem man. If ya know the actual width of the new boots just tape something to the ones on the car now and check distances in the driveway. Ya know what I mean. Turn the wheel, well you know what I mean.
Nice ride btw.

Oh forgot, thanks for the compliment. A tweaked 318 with the original Carter. Bought it off a lady in Phoenix who's sons had moved away and left it abandoned. It was their play thing. They monkeed with the bottom end, (not sure what Cam perhaps?) but kept the Carter, no headers or anything like that. She hooks hard and reals them in on the top end. The Go-Wing is not true to the orig specs, but the boys predrilled it so I had no choice.
No rust, but the plastic and rubber are dry as a bone. Any play money I get that'll be the next project...also a tranny rebuild.
Just love the car. Like all vintage Mopars it turns heads and tempts the kids in the rice-suckers.
Wouldn't have it any other way!

Welcome to the forum!
If you are running 235/70-14 the tires will be 9.252" wide and a total diameter of 26.95"
Now when you switch to the 245/60-14 that will be 9.646" wide and diameter of 25.575.
So you will gain less than a half inch in width and actually lose 1.4" in height.
I would say there wouldn't be any problems going to the wider tire but by losing the height (diameter) your wheel openings won't be as full. If I remember correctly 215/75-14 were standard so that would have a diameter of 26.70.
Hope this will help.

72RD...A great and helpful take on this situation! I cannot thank you enough for this info in addition to Polaradude. I am heartened to find out that the width won't be an issue. It gives me some latitude to mix and match.
My instinct is to pull the wider tires, but use the new Ralleys, center-caps, and trim rings with my P235's as they were standard with the car.

This is great!

67 GTX, I appreciate your welcome. I knew right away that the gang at the forum would help me out. There is no way I'm going to refuse the Rallye's, although I have a weakness for the Magnums. Picked them up off the president of the "Latin King" Cruisers (strictly Impala's) up in the Bronx!
Gonna turn the car over to Mopar Tranny legend Bill Belfatto (used to be in Port Chester now in Norwalk) as soon as I can, but with two kids in college. It's tough.

Many thanks to you and the gang. Sure beats calling Year One! Yow! ;-) Awhhh, heck they're o.k. just like to kid them from time to time.
