Roadrunner headlight relay

Roadrunner headlight relay
My 70 Roadrunner has headlight problems. After they have been on for 2-3 minutes they go out. 20-30 seconds later they come back on again then go out after 10-20 seconds. That continues for as long as I have them on. I assume that is a bad relay or breaker but cannot find where it is located to replace. Anyone know?? Thanks

Administrator with a large ban hammer !
The headlight switch has a automatic reset breaker built into it. check to see if the switch is getting hot. If it is not, the switch is probably bad, but if it is I would check and clean all the connections from the switch to the bulbs. There are probably some bad connections in the circuit.

where is the breaker for headlights
I do not believe the headlight switch (toggle type) on my Roadrunner has a built in breaker. I have taken it apart and just see simple contacts. Wher else might the breaker be??

Jump on over to MyMopar and download a factory service manual
http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=31
http://www.mymopar.com/downloads/ser...ice_Manual.zip
This manual is consecutively page numbered, so you'll have to "play" with page no's a bit
http://www.mymopar.com/downloads/ser...ice_Manual.zip
Index to the electrical chapter is page 233
Index to wiring diagrams is page 353
Instrument panel section for Satellite / Belvedere is page 378
Headlight switch is far right, near top of page 379
Headlight power (not tail or dash light) comes TO the switch on L1-16BK lower right of switch
Follow this down, off page and back on from the left side of the page above
This wire goes to the left and goes to an in harness splice with six branches.
If you follow R6A-12BK off to the left, and up and off to the right, and back to the next page, you will find that it ends up at the left side of the ammeter
THERE IS NO fuse or breaker protection for the headlights except for
the main fuse link in the engine bay, and the breaker built inside the headlight switch
There can be several causes................
if you have added heavier, IE Halogen lamps
if the switch itself internally has a bad connection or contact, building heat
if the switch harness connector has a bad connection, building heat.
