well i just went out and got a dash from an 05 charger to put in my 1973 charger and its already lookin grim im about 2 inches too short length wise and about an inch too deep not to mention a bunch of wiring (the wiring isnt reall a problem tho i can handle that) but im having a hard time figuring out what to do about the lenght and depth so if you guys have any ideas please shoot them my way

Yea, don't do it. What are you going to do about the airbags and all the electronics? Neat concept, bad idea.

lol well i was going to remove the triggering mechanism from the bags and as far as the electronics go i have the ecm and pcm but the more i look at it the more i think "wow im really a dumbass for buying this"

getting the dash to fit can be done, but gettin any of the gauges to work...wow that would be crazy hard. Talk to a custom type of body shop for the fitment issues. You can use filler pieces and trim the depth but I think you are gonna have to "gut" all the innards first to get the fitment right. Then you can worry about the gauges and everything else. And that is where the fun is gonna start. getting all the air-cond, heater, stereo, gauges, steering wheel and shaft, ducting, lights and switches (and more) to work properly is gonna be tough.

well, one of the reasons that i love the old cars is how when I get inside, i feel like im in a time machine, i love looking at the old dash. I think that new dashes look so plain jane, no character. Just my opinion.

agree with ya 100%. How many cars are on the road nowadays that have the ignition switch in the dasboard. Not many. What I like about the old cars is that you dont need to be a rocket scientist to figure them out. The controls are "intuitive", meaning, you know how to work them just by looking at them, they're where they "should be". Try and operate any thing nowadays without reading an instruction manual first, I mean its insane. My window unit air conditioner has a remote control.

Getting the dash itself to fit could be fun! The dash restoration places should be able to do it. You could cut and shape the dash to fit, then they could vacuum form the new vinyl to fit.
