tf 904 trans help

hey guys, i just installed my "newer" 904 trans in my 78 Cordoba and took it for a ride with the shifter in [D] it shifts great from 1st to second then when it shifts to 3rd it feels like its in neutral and if i try to give it gas it just revs and pulls a little. i was thinking maybe the band needs to be adjusted? or do you guys think its something else?

thanks a lot
mike

Please explain "newer". Is this a trans that you (or someone else) pulled from another vehicle? Did you drain the pan, install a new filter and or flush the whole tranny before running it?

It is likely not going all the way into "D" and slipping. adjust the linkage before you even move it.

is there an easy way to adjust it?

doba, whether its col. or floor shift, after you raise and support the car, underneath, unhook the linkage from the trans arm. place the trans arm in D, then make sure that the shifter is in d. then the linkage bar has a bolt on the top of it, you loosen this bolt, then the lkg. piece moces back and forth on the arm. you move it till it will fall right into the shift arm on the trans. the secure itand tighten the bolt back, try to shift it in the car then. if it still persists, id say you have internal probs. and not shift wise. Did you reinstall the kickdown lever from the carb,to the trans?
