yea trade it for a mopar lol
well get you self a rebuild manual for the trany and take your time be care full some of those clutch packs could be under allot of pressure if you get the snape ring off with out using smoe sort of press you could launch a dozen or more springs all over your work area the over drive unit on the 518 is under 400 lbs of pressure you can get seriously hurt or killed make sure you get the rebuild manual "automatic transmission service group" :thumbsup:for it before you start read and review it so you are prepared for the job its a big one ive rebuilt a few tranys in my day so some good advice here :)

If you can wait until Friday, my '72 Demon owning son who works at a Ford dealership will be back from trade school and I can ask him. He says they have a guy there who can on the bench, take apart, back together, complete rebuild in three hours.

heya 67hemidart, I just happen to own a 99 f350 7.3 Super duty Diesel powerstroker 4x4 (be nice guys :)) You either have the 6.0 engine if its a diesel or 5.4L if its gass v8 or the 6.8 v10 gass... You either have the 4R100 (4-speed w/OD) or the TORQSHIFT (5 speed w/OD) trany in that....only tip I can think of other than eat your WHEATIES (and a lot of them) the morning of, is you will want to pull the 4x4 transfer case out with the trany as one unit (much easier that way) And man are you right on not doing it with a creeper, that is one heavy beast of a unit!!!! let us know how it goes?

yea that is the way to do it on a lift i dont have access to a lift so its creeper and cardboard car up on jack stands
i can imagine how heavy that trany is with a transfer case on it my 518 was a beast and i did the swap by myself :smash:
but shes in and wow now i have the mods to finish im not rushing this
you get inventive on removal and install
three hour rebuilds sounds about right for a experienced mechanic my record time with a rebuild is 5 hours 727
my brothers nissan pu trany took us 9 hours and the next day to install basically we used a weekend no lifts

My son just got home, so here we go.

Both driveshafts out, converter bolts through inspection plate or opposite side of starter. Many long extensions, swivels and different length sockets to get top engine to trans bolts out "not fun".

Remove all wires 1st then transfer case, comes off dry if fluid present a seal has blown, common and a frequent repair. Don't take them out together, too lop-sided, take out seperately or you may be able to hang it in the truck.
