Turbo on a mild 360?

So, anyone have experience with throwing a small turbo on a 360? Say, only pushing 4-5psi through it? Will the stock cast crank and I-beams hold up? Head studs?
I've got a buddy who put a turbo on a dead stock subaru 1.6 liter, and now I'm curious haha.

im kind of curios my self
my bro and i have always talked about a paxton super charger kit for a mopar he has several books about the subject i could say hes the expert not me
i know the lower end has been rated "at one time" at 400 hp 4 bolts after that i have a steel crank from a military 318 its super duty forged saving it for forced induction some day :gone:

Yeah it will take the 4-5 psi but idk for how long. it maybe a day or 10 years, depends on how you drive it. I would put better headgaskets and headstuds on it first though.

I would swap head gaskets for sure !! stock pistons or aftermarket , you want either forged or the stock piston with a steel liner . I was going to use 2 of the Buick 3.8 turbos on my 440 but I wanted to go to EFI first as the carbs cannot 'see' pressure & I didn't want it to lean out .

wat do you mean by, see?
ive seen carbs used in a few applications

if you put the carb after the turbo the carb can feel the change in air flow but not air density so you can have a lot more air moving through the carb & run lean on fuel delivery , the only way to use a carb effectively is before the turbo so the air & fuel ratio remain consistant . I just feel EFI is far more accurate , you can use a 3 bar map & the EFI can exactly monitor the air pressure .

You haven't seen too many turbo setups, have ya? Lots of them are "blow through" and I dare say MOST are in the world of V8 added on turbos

Here's a couple. I didn't bother to filter the results

wat about using a a box type like paxton superchargers set up:)

Chryco Psycho Oct 1, 2012 10:00 PM

Actually I have seen a number of blow through systems as well as crushed floats I just feel there is a better way & with my car was going to set up the EFI first before adding the turbos .
I spent the better part of a day on the dyno trying to tune a paxton type blow through system , we got it tuned far closer to where it should have been but never got it tuned properly even after numerous emails to the factory that designed the system as well as trying everything that made sense .
Will blow through work sure ......... is it ideal maybe not so much .

that seams to be a tuning night mare compared too a o2 sensor and a computer; cave man to Mr Spock
wat do you think about draw through superchargers carb, and fuel injected

Chryco Psycho Oct 2, 2012 06:50 PM

Well I am not afraid of technology it is far more tunable than a carb [as my friend calls them controlled gas leaks ] Carbs work & are far more affordable , but there are gains with EFI . I pieced together an EFI system , it accidentally started while testing it LOL , make wicked power too , the 440 had a race cam in it but idled like it was stock @ 800 rpm as every cylinder got the correct amount of fuel right behind the intake valve , no issues with low vacuum & fuel dropping out of the airstream so it fired every cylinder everytime !!
Draw through works fine the air is not changing pressure before the blower so the A/F ratio is decent at all Rpm & Loads .

controlled gas leak ive heard that before that's true lol
there's no-doubt that the fuel injection is far superior i would like to try it but the costs at this time for me are out of the question wat i paid for the cab versus the cost of the fuel injection, ive dreamed about a tbi system; holly fast professional products avenger $1000-2200
then there's the edelbrock system 3100
some look simple some look complex
but i know once its programed there is no guessing its metering to the max at all speeds, loads
maybe some day i will find a really good deal:)
