it wasnt a 440
ran the nubers on the block i got from the junk yard... i bought it thinkin it was a 440 but it is a 413 wedge.... is this good or bad considering i payed 475 for it... the motor has preety good horse power and alot of torque but should i keep it or take it back?
What year? Is it an HP block? What did it come out of? On the plus side, your bolt-on RB motor stuff will work with it. However, if it came out of a motor home, you're going to have additional problems (mounting, etc)
I'm potentially purchasing a 65 413/727 combo from another car.
I spoke with Mancini racing today about this. The 413 is a higher rpm motor than even the 383. This can be bored out to about 450 CID according to Mancini. The biggest pain is going to be your pistons and rods, but they are available at slightly more cost. Commonly this block is bored out to 426 CID.

I'm kickin myself for being so broke. Another ad on the local craigslist, "440/727, 68,000mi. $400, motor home included". From what has been said on the site, the motorhomes have a heavier clutch-pak, like the hemi trans's. I like my 383 but it has issues. The thought of just a bolt-in and go 440 sounds simpler right now.
A 413 wedge block is a very sought out item in some parts! I'd kill to get my hands on a workable 413 or 426 Wedge, my Fury originally had a 426 but was switched out by the previous owner for a 383. a 65' 413 would have the same block casting numbers as the engine my car should have, witch would give me a numbers matching ride! To bad your in Texas or I'd drive over there now and take it off your hands for more than you paid for it!

I'm tripping over these things!
http://flint.craigslist.org/pts/1286399091.html Yet another 440/727 motorhome just around the corner. This used to be walkin around money for me. At least I still have my house. Others are worse off so I shouldnt whine.
413 CI V-8 RB Wedge
The 413 was first introduced to the Chrysler division in 1959, and Dodge and Plymouth in 1961. Desoto was saddled with the 361 CI in its last year. Bore was 4.187-inches, stroke was 3.750-inches, and it was rated at 350 HP with 470-lb. ft. of torque. Race-spec longram intake versions cranked out 375 HP and 465 lb. ft. torque.
In 1962, the 413 became a single purpose drag race-only engine. Equipped with either 11:1 or 13.5:1 forged pistons; high-lift, long-duration, solid-lifter cam; large-port heads with 2.08-inch intake and 1.88-inch exhaust valves; dual fours on a crossram intake; and high-flow, upswept exhaust manifolds – this engine made between 410 HP and 420 HP and was called the Max Wedge.
In 1963, the Max Wedge 413 was dropped in favor of the larger Max Wedge 426. The 413 in a tamer version lasted through 1965 in Chryslers, and 1970 (with different heads) in Mack trucks.

Side note: 413's are found up until 1972 in Winnebago motor homes as well.
