weird pops

when your going around 50-60 in my 03 dodge ram it feels like its popping or something. it dosent make any sounds just jerks you in little pops. The truck has 200000 miles. COuld it be the tranny or motor? It does this as you accelerate, when you going slower or faster than 50-60 its fine.

I could be alot of things, is the pop a noise or is it moving you in the seat. That will narrow it down a little.

no noise but you feel it jerking you in little pop like feelings. best i can explain it.also its only when you accelerate in the 50-60 area.

Start with a tune up...........sounds like you have a spark plug wire that shorts out under heavy load...............A specially if the ign wires have 200,000 on then:eek:

Is it a 4-wheel drive?

sgp7679 03-29-2009 09:45 PM

no 2wd 1500

theomahamoparguy 03-29-2009 10:02 PM

My theory out the window {4-wheel drive problems}Best guess;ignition related.
Its a really weird sounding problem!

try cleaning the throttle body completely including the throttle position sensor and iac. they are pretty sensitive, and the truck will run crappy if they are dirty. also check if you are throwing any codes. not sure if this is an option in the 03's - if you put the key in and turn it back and forth from off to the on position, on the 5th on position your odometer will read "done" and give you any codes that are present.

There may be a little flat spot in your TPS, but I would first go with a general tune up and go from there. The usual, plugs, wires and see if the pop is still there. Keep us posted, we'll help if we can.

What motor do you have in it? Tranny (auto or manual)?

What do ya bet it's an automatic Tim ?

78D200 03-30-2009 03:12 AM

Most likely is but I have a friend a few towns over who's father has an 03 Ram 1500 2wd with a 3.7 and manual, hence why I asked about motor and tranny.

Plus John has a 1500 with a 4.7 and manual as well.

sgp7679 03-30-2009 05:33 AM

its a 4.7 auto. its gonna be getting a tune up soon so ill see what happens.

Clean the TB, IAC, and TPS really good.

have you noticed a difference in your gas milage since this started happening? Or a random skipping?

johnthegoalie 03-30-2009 08:01 AM

after the truck is all warmed up, at stop lights and such - do you notice a rough idle at all, even slight?

sgp7679 03-30-2009 01:43 PM

nope, good idle, it runs perfect besides the jitters in 50-60 range. gas mpg is the same, hasnt changed.

Polaradude 03-30-2009 02:25 PM

How's the tranny fluid level,colour,smell ?

sgp7679 03-30-2009 04:31 PM

ill check that

sgp7679 04-06-2009 05:21 PM

it was the plugs. all good now

johnthegoalie 04-06-2009 08:03 PM

which engine do you have? i have the 4.7 - i found the best results both in running and mpg with the stock oem champions

sgp7679 04-11-2009 02:31 PM

well the first day the truck wasnt running so good again and the check engine light came on, i checked the engine and there was a hose i forgot to connect, reconnected it and reset the comp. and it is running good now, but now it feels like its idling too low and dies sometimes when you get off the gas to slow down.

Polaradude 04-11-2009 02:40 PM

Is it running rich ? Gas smell at the tailpipe ?
