Why did you choose your Mopar?
 

Why did you choose to restore a classic Mopar, rather than, let's say, a Pontiac, Ford or Chevy?

I have always admired the Chargers, Barracudas, Challengers and Dusters, etc. Very cool cars, not to mention the muscle.

Just trying to get some views and opinions, like what is your favorite Mopar, and why?

BTW, new to the forums! Hoping to find something nice, soon.
Been around the block with Pontiacs, Fords, etc.

I have always been a Mopar freak.... My first car was a 1952 Plymouth coupe. I remember seeing this car as a middle school student.... It belonged to a good friends father... It looked like a light brown turd. It was covered with surface rust.. The car was finally traded in on a new car. The Pymouth dealer was into cars and he fixed the car up.. Paint, and new roll & pleat interior. He used the car for a couple of years as a parts getter car... I bought it at 16 or 17 for $200. This was my first ride.... It still was a turd with its slant 6 and three speed on the column, but it was my turd!!!!!! Had it for several years and loved Mopars ever since. But my most favorite is the 1968 Barracuda.. I remember Sox and Martin match racing at our local drag strip with their "Little Boss" barracuda... Have wanted on since then... Experienced my dream app 6 years ago when I bought the one I now race... This is one car I do not ever plan to sell..... I want it to be my casket....:D:D:D

My dad always talked about the Belle boys (local family race team) and the cars and dodge van that they built (all of course being Mopar). Plus I love the older, odd jeeps, how when you go to a car show you hardly see two of the same Mopar, and most Mopar freaks are not @$$holes.

I picked up my 68 Plymouth Valiant so that my dad and I could restore it together and spend some quality time together. The next project will be a buggy for off roading with a Mopar drivetrain.

I think what does it for me is one the name Mopar no other brand name has a cool name like that. 2. they are the only one with the Hemi. 3 Dodge today is still making a mean looking Vehicles 4. I love how heavy these old mopar cars are compared to others. 5. I love the Cuda but own a Road Runner. 6. I got one heck of a steal couldnt pass it up.

Let me start off by saying I like cars in general and I am not loyal to any one marquee. In addition to my Chrysler, I've got a '64 GTO and I would like to get a decent El Camino for a parts runner/Home Depot runner. Anyway, I was looking for a large, '60's convertible to restore and my '65 300 filled the bill. I think it's one of the best looking cars of the 60's and I like the fact that, with only 1,400 built, the chances of seeing another one at a show are slim.

i think its one of those things...you go into 31 flavors and you see a bunch of ice cream you want...they have a section that has 10 of the 31 flavors in a certain section (and those are your favorite ones)...you would be loyal to that section of ice cream even if there were some other ones you didnt mind right? Thats pretty much how i feel...i love cudas and chargers and challengers and "hemi"...and so im loyal to mopar....

Mopar has always been synonyms for "muscle"!:D

The best cars my Dad ever owned were Mopars. But he was a Cheap tightwad who thought he could get better and cheaper by jumping ship. My Cordoba runs as good as his new Buick.

I always liked mopars, i had a 69 ford in school and friends dad bought him a 72 cuda, i loved that car, i built the eng. in after a few years and he drove it about a year after that and the power steering went out and the driver door glass busted so he parked it, a few months went by and he told me he was going to sell it, so i bought it , it was a 340 car solid white, i drove it for years and then (i could kik my butt now) back halved it and roll cage into a drag car.:( its still in the family just sitting i want to try and get it back ill see!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Mopar chose me. Great grandpa was a Desoto man, grandpa always bought Mopar, my uncle drag raced a Mopar powered rail in the '70's and early '80's, my dad started with a '70's plum crazy 'Cuda, no he didn't keep it, he traded it in on a Valarie, and then a Dakota. I have owned a bit of everything but right now it is 2009 Jeep Liberty, my second one, and the '72 Fury Custom Suburban, along with some Chevy trucks just because they where the right price at the right time.

There really is no explanation for my mopar fetish.
I grew up around chevy's.
My dad had his 69 camaro ss
My Uncle Had his 71 Nova
My gramps and his 56 belair.
everyone on my moms side was oldsmobile.
Maybe just being arround GM made me not want it.
But my first car was a 73 camaro.
And i wasnt fond of it but it was my fastest car.
Than i got my s15 truck.
Wrecked that.
And i bought my duster that i was dying to get.
Tranny went out was gunna make a drag car out of it slowly.
My girl made me sell it.
Now i got my newport. And I only want to buy mopars since the duster.
I just love their look.
Front ends specifically.
They are just cool cars

Because thats what got handed down to me from my dad. But dont get me wrong i wouldn't trade that car for anything in the world.

I don't have a mopar and I never have. My dad had one mopar when he was growing up, his first car, and after it threw a rod he turned completely to chevy. Since then he has driven nothing but chevy and 1 or 2 toyota company cars. He won't let me drive nothin but chevy so thats what I am stuck with for now. I like Dodge mostly becasue no other company has a history of performance like they do. Their cars look the best and they perform the best. You just cant beat a mopar

our legendary 265 hemi 6 cylinder
 

i heard there was a small 2 medium sized Chrysler called a centura that had a 245 hemi 6 in it . i seen one in a car yard for $300 so i put a deposit on it . i put my whole next weeks pay on it & on my very first drive i hit 190 kph went over a hump on our hoon strip & got all 4 wheels off the ground WOW that was it me hooked on Chrysler for life . it didn't take long for word to get around about that & i was doing joy flights for all of my friends . I'd say 190 kph would be about 110 mph or more :rolleyes: that's farking crazy sh#t . i raced every thing i could & never lost . & i always loved the general lee also . MOPAR 4 LIFE ;) .

For me i retired from Chryslers

because they are the coolest, badest, muscle on the planet

my grandfother's last car was a 70 Plymouth Fury that I got when he past away, I beet the snot out of it. than had to repair it, that is what I learned on. I enjoy wrenching and have had several Mopars over be cause thy were cheep when I was younger. but my 62 has been with me since 1982 I it is my pride and joy. my children have never driven a cooler car, so their friends have sead

Mopars in my family are a family tradition. My uncles and cousins had a bunch of them back when I was a kid. Everything from Chrysler New Yorkers and Town and country station wagons to 70 4sp roadrunners.
My favorite when I was a little kid was my uncle's 68 Monaco (with 440 and every option you can think of).

BTW, 78D200 actually likes the Mopars because of the left handed lugnuts, (right 78D? hehehehe)

Born and raised on the East side of Detroit! If you were an Eastsider, then some or most of the family worked for Chrysler. Geographically the plants were on the center and east side. Hamtramack, Conner Ave, Dodge Main, Jefferson North, Mack Ave. Engine, Warren truck, etc. Ford folks tended to stay on the west side and downriver cause thats where their plants were. Detroit is kinda weird, East and West side folks tend not to mingle. Race and social class has nothing to do with it. Woodward is just this kind of invisible wall between them.

I started my car craze at 14 with a 1966 Rambler American Rogue that my Great Grandpa bought new. It got pushed to the side and I've had a google of chevys and few fords since that just wasn't what I was looking for. On the hunt for a turn key car instead of a major project, my cousin had a 1966 Belvedere for sale, which was cool to me because my dad had a 1966 Satellite with a 440 as his high school hot rod. The Belvedere is now mine and only has a 318, but it still rocks! It turns heads everywhere, and drives great, I love the Belvedere and have big plans for it and selling it is NOT one of them.

My first owned car was a '69 Coronet and my old friend had a Mirada. So for me it's all about good memories.
