About $121 US dollars (at 6/28/09 conversion rate) for those who don't know the conversion.

That is a really good price.

with stock internals the 390 is pushing it, but built up - mine ran like a mother#$%&er.

i had the holley 390, stepped it up to a carter 500

67 GTX Jun 29, 2009 06:14 PM

how does the engine run with the 500?

johnthegoalie Jun 30, 2009 01:34 AM

from the box, jets are good but it needs slightly smaller metering rods. it runs great with that setup, even tooling around in the 110+ summers.

there is all so weber style manifold fuel injection set ups , from hemi performance . I'm guessing there expensive just like everything else .

when i was at my club's picnic the other day, i mentioned putting a 4-speed behind a slant six. One guy immediately said that you'll blow a rod by doing that. I said, "Oh really, and just walked away."
Now, I am 99% sure that he didnt know what he was talking about, but that 1% makes me wonder?

What? How does installing a 4 spd tranny behind a slant 6 going to cuase you to "blow a rod"?

Maybe he ment that you would "blow by people"?

Hmmm, Dart Lite and Feather Duster were both /6-4spd cars if I recall correctly...

67 GTX Jul 2, 2009 09:16 AM

can the later 4-speeds hold up behind a worked 440?

johnthegoalie Jul 4, 2009 02:28 AM

its the same tranny - on the od units the factory made actual 3rd od keeping 4th 1:1. they flipped the 3-4th shift lever so it will shift in order.

theomahamoparguy Jul 4, 2009 08:33 AM

agree...I had an '80 Dodge pickup [1/2 ton short box ] that had the slant 6 and the 4 sp O.D. Man I should not have sold that. It actually got good gas mileage.{23 hwy}

67 GTX Jul 4, 2009 05:02 PM
