I know a lot of blowers make them run like that....I have been to many tractor pulls and they all seem to idle like that.. My guess is that they are running a lot of fuel as to not melt down the pistons.. I would check with guys that deal with superchargers and see if they know why.. You could always tone the charge down by changing the pulleys and running lower boost...There aren't to many people running blowers on the street not like that anyway...Bill

RacerHog 06-17-2014 12:17 PM

Yes Raffa. I do know of the car.
That articulations is caused by ether the cam profile or the barrel valve adjustment.
That's power baby!!!!!!

thank you Bill .... look like not rich .. and not smoke from exhaust ..when engine warm .. look like better and some times the idle is firm at 1400 RPM .. look like the converter stall is too low ... engage at 2500 RPM

That is a nice car, but what you are experiencing is blower surge. As Bob stated, it can be tuned out to a large degree, but as it was in the video it is excessive in my opinion. You need someone that knows blowers to change the pills and tune the system. It will be a lot more streetable with a proper tune. As it is now, it's really only good for full throttle applications. Does it calm down when it warms up?

thanks for your help ! engine is streetable only over 2500 rpm ... before the idle go up and down ... also when engine warm-up .. i tried at adjust the throttle sensor but no change ... i fear that can destroy the transmission .... when you put in first the idle go up and down and is very difficult take stop the car !!

Raffa

I have "heard" blower car racers say this is a lean fuel setup condition to keep the idle down while still being able to hold the car (stage) with a tight converter in gear on the brakes, as they do not wish to loosen their converters for their race applications.

The engine idle hunting is the engine looking for more fuel.

Put a stick in it whoohoo !!!

Cheers

Peter

I agree with the convertor being to tight..

I was taught blower surge is from being too fat at idle. But if you lean it out to make it stop surging the idle speed goes up something drastic. They can try to adjust it out, but it is even harder to drive the car with it idling at 2500 RPM or above.

Drag Pak 06-29-2014 08:11 PM

from "The Blower Shop"

This is caused by a rich/lean cycle at idle. As the motor leans out the RPM's increase and richen up the motor, when the motor richens the RPM's decrease and the motor leans out again. This continual cycle is known as "blower surge". With proper tuning, some of this surging should be able to be eliminated

RacerHog 06-30-2014 07:38 AM

Try turning the idle up and see if that makes it better???
Sometimes that's all it takes...

raffaplymouth 11-01-2014 03:05 PM

Yes .. Think the cause is the idle mixture ... If i pu the idle at 2000 rpm ... No surge ,,,

pro-tech 11-02-2014 10:33 AM

Maybe you should look at the date of the post... I just don't get it.. Why people reply to old posts... Some as much as 3 years old...:slap: This one is over 4 months old..............

RacerHog 11-02-2014 03:03 PM

And install the line lock on the brake ...i will try the car on the strip like that .. Car weight is 3900 lb with over 1000 hp ..rear axle is Ford 9" 35 spline with Competition engineering traction bars .Thank for your help

No Bob ... No big tires !! Factory fender on Toretto's car !!! some specs :

528 Hemi blower 970 HP + 250 nitrous
275/60/15 MT drag radial dot pro
Ford 9" currie with wawetrack and 3.73 ratio
Transmission 727 full manual + john cope v bodie
Tci 4500 rpm converter stall , 9" diameter

RacerHog 11-09-2014 02:17 PM

Toretto's car is a nice build you guys are doing... :)

I think the car will MPH good out on the Big End of the track.... But with the 3.73 rear gear, I think it's going to be hard to get the big girl to move to the 60' mark...
But if he is going to do allot of street driving? that gear is a nice one....
Just my 2 cent

Keep us posted... :)
