Back Spacing
Back Spacing
I haven't addressed this yet with my projects but think this should benefit a lot of people to figure out how to calculate back spacing when getting new wheels. I have seen a few tools out there for this purpose, but would like to hear what you all recommend when doing this.
i know this is for trucks, but it will help

Measure your current tire clearance then measure your current wheel. Add width or height if you have room, go crazy if you have a plasma cutter or torch.
Lay wheel on its face
place a straight edge on the up side of the wheel
measure from (the wheel touching part of the straight edge) to center of wheel
measure the thickness of the rim lip
deduct the rim lip thickness from the number from the SE to Center and you have the backspacing.
some companies do not deduct the rim thickness, always ask before ordering.

Thanks 67GTX That second part looks helpful, as what is on there now has no relevance to the new wheels, just want to make sure that the ones I picked out have the right spacing so they don't stick out too much or rub.
This is the tool I was referring to, used on the car and checks the clearances.
