Tire and Rim size advice
 

I'm looking at getting new rims for my 68 Coronet and my question is this, would 15x8 rims with 275/60/15 tires fit in the rear without rubbing or should I go with 255/60/15's. When I bought this car last year it had 15x10 rims with 295/50/15 tires with extended shackles. I want to put the factory shackles back in (don't like the extended shackles) but I still want a decent sized tire in the rear without rubbing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Oh, and I do have air shocks in the rear if I need extra clearance.

I read on the internet somewhere (forgot where, can't find it now) that you could put a 15x10 rim with 4.5 inch backspacing with 295/50/15 tires under a 68 Coronet without tire rub or other mods. Has anyone done this or know of anyone who has? Thanks in advance. :)

I would try to measure yourself. That way you know whats what.
I have found lots of conflicting stories when looking online.

I went ahead and measured and it looks like it's going to be too close to me so I've decided on 15x8 for the rear with 60 series tires. Thanks for the advice. The tires are all brand new, just thought if I could get away with the 50's it would save me from buying two more tires. But I guess I could just try to sell them.

I just want to get rid of those extended shackles and not have to worry about tire rub. Thanks! :)

Oh, and yes, I'll post some pic's with the new wheels when I get them in.

You should be able to fit the 275/60's in there no problem I fit them in on my '67 barracuda.

Hey, gents. I just bought Cragar SS 7x15's and need to know how fat I can go. I bought the car with P205/70R14, and I'm trying to find anyone who may have some knowledge as to what tire would work and not hit the well, or the springs. Thanx, D.J.

what offset do the rims that you bought have?

4 1/8 backspacing...I just bought 215/65R-15's I'm hoping the wheel fits, but it looks close. So here is what I bought. Cragar SS 7"x15 wheels, and P215/65R-15 Goodrich Radial T/A RWL. Does anyone know if this is gonna work on my 68 Dart....Thanx.

Did you pull the trigger on these tires?
I am curious. I ran 215/65R15 on the front of my Challenger once with zero offset wheels.
I ended up with the tiniest bit of rub on the front frame rail.
You could never hear it rub but the tire took the paint off in a spot.

I'm restorig a 1967 Plymouth Baracuda, have changed 14" (non power) drums front and rear, with new SSBC Disc 11" 5-4.5 Front and 10.5" 5-4.5 rear, I had to change Axels and now I'm having a problem with wheel and tire sizes, no one seems to know what sizes to use without having problems. I would like to use American Racing chrome wheels but I need the right size for the clearane with or without offset, and if i need the offset what would that be.

If SSBC knows what they're doing (and I assume they do)
The disc brake upgrade wont change the the track-width of the axle.
This is not always the case with some aftermarket manufacturers.
So long as the track width didn't change you should continue using a zero offset wheel. Do you have a plain steel wheel to check fitment?
Are the calipers single piston or four piston?
