1974 Scamp Slant Six TO 1997 Ram 5.9L Swap
 

Hello, Doing Some Research Here. I Have A 1974 Plymouth Scamp With The Slant Six. I'm Looking At Putting A 360 Magnum From A 1997 Dodge Ram Into It. I Know You Can Swap A Carbureted 360 Small Block Into These Cars, But I Was Wondering If Anyone Has Attempted This Swap Yet. If So, Any Advice Would Be Helpful. My Last Project Was A 1996 Neon, Which I Mocked An SRT-4 Motor With The 2.4L Caravan Motor. I Have The Motor, Trans, Wiring Harness, And Computer, As This Isn't My First Rodeo.

Okay since it's not your first rodeo let me tell you the most straight forward way to get the motor in the slant six car. It's call Engine Swaps made easy.

Shumacher Creative is the only way to go..may cost more but that's not me.

Actually quite a few people have done this swap. I would think that one would rather have fuel injection over carb (maybe that's just me though).

The site that Eric posted up is a good place to start though.

Tim is right. Do what you did before and take the computer and the wiring harness with you out of the truck.

I dont have anything specific. But an FI motor likes a different grind than a carb. Mopar Performance has some computer-compatible cams. Might also try Comp-Cams. The LS Cheby guys know this. They are making some insane horsepower with that block, but they all wish it would "lope" a bit!

With whatever cam you decide to go with, talk to the manufacter about injector sizes and re-tuning the PCM.

Granted adding a cam would really wake up that motor but with the properly matched injectors and a computer that is tuned to dead nuts perfect, that motor will SCREAM!

The intake manidfold can be restrictive being dome shaped, so I would look into getting an Mopar Performance FI intake for it.

What are your plans for the tranny?

If you have done the reg swap this part is easy just tedious.

If you can, take the whole ram:)

You need the upstream and down stream 02's, speed sensor, TPS, cam, IAC, coolant, etc.... you NEED the inside OBD2 interface (you can pull codes and trouble shoot system issues, and add new tunes). you dont need cats unless you want them. I can walk you thru the defeat for the computer but all the 02s are mandatory. the computer will handle some slight variations in cams. Keep the LSA wide 114 minimum and lift under .512. Yes, the intake is horrible but not that bad in a lighter car. Its designed for a 5000 lb truck.

My advise is don't change anything until you have it running (well, maybe oil pump, T chain, etc... ) Once you start changing parts chasing gremlins can be problematic..

Mark the distributer in the block so you have a ballpark fuel sync.

Take the fuel tank and pump.

Label all sensors before you remove the harness. Don't cut anything. Take the main computer (don't remove sticker) Keep the vin for the ram it came out of. Take the main under hood power dist center and the secondary fuse box.
