440 6 pack air cleaner base questions
I've got a 440 Six Pack Super Bee and have some questions about the air cleaner base. The motor is not the original one and I think whoever installed this new motor in the car cut some corners just to get it running. Already found other areas of sloppiness that I've been correcting.
The Six Pack air cleaner base does not sit flush on the 3 carbs and there are gaps between the cleaner base and top of carbs. It looks like the fuel bowl screws on the carb tops are preventing it from sitting flush. The base is the fiberglass one from Year One. Could this base be the wrong one, perhaps its the one for a 340 Six Pack? Or am supposed to grind the fiberglass base in specific areas to get it to fit? Would I be safer ordering the 1969 1/2 440 Six Pack specific air cleaner assembly? Any difference between the metal base compared to fiberglass (i.e., metal base is made to fit)?

Does it have a part number on it? If so call Year One and ask them what it fits. No part number, you can still talk to them about what you have and fitment if you know for sure it is from Year One.
