440 Carb Advice + Rim/Tire
Hey, been reading for a while, first time writing. I have a 77 Power Wagon 4X4. It has the 440/727 full time 4 wheel drive. Looking for a carb to replace the Carter Thermo-Quad on it now . Edelbrock vs. Holley or do I rebuild this one? Anyone have good luck with a Thermo rebuild? I hear that they warp and the plastic fuel bowl is problematic? How about rims and tires. It has the 16.5 rim now. Tires are expensive could be switching to 16 size rim, but here are the questions.... What years fit?? As far as the 16.5 8 lug will all Ch--Y and F--D fit my DODGE. Some say there is a difference in the hub size. They say to just get Dodge rims the others have too big a hub. And if I do switch to a 16 inch 8 lug rim what year DODGE rims will fit? I will have more questions as I go along. Thanks!!!

the thermoquad would be a good carb to rebuild if you could find some decent kits to rebuild them. so far, I haven't found much other than the parts store stuff. no=one seems to be concentrating on them. At one time you could buy the phenolic resin main body, dont think they are available anymore. I personally like the quadrajet carbs, easy to find and good parts are available to build them. If you just want to buy something, I would go with the edelbrock with the avs style secondaries.
As far as the wheel thing goes, I've always heard that the ford wheel will fit on the dodge but not vice versa. I've got a W150 but with the 5 lug wheels and I've got a ford wheel on there now. The center register is larger on the ford. Dont know if this would apply to the 8 lug versions. Best bet would be to find the mopar wheels. THis way you know the register will match.

Edelbrocks are good for out of box install and go. I think they are little easier to work with but for tunability the holley is better. I think its either you love holley and hate edelbrock or vice versa.
