8 1/4 and 8 3/4 rear end

Will the backing plates and brake assemblys work off of a 8 1/4 rearend on a 8 3/4 rear end?

I know the axle bearing retaining plate from a 1/4 will bolt to a 3/4 rear end.

whats the differance in the 1/4 and the 3/4 never really got into rearend work and not sure why it would make a differance
