the cars a 73 challenger, 5.2L

about a week ago the car would randomly not start when it didnt want to, so i left it alone and tried to start it the next morning and it started right up with no problem,
there was very little corrosion on the battery terminal and the wires that were installed by a previous mechanic were done very poorly but never gave me problems, so i ended up replacing the battery cables and terminals. i test drove it and the car died at a stop after about 5 min of driving, i try cranking it again and the battery just crapped out, i get the car jumped and drive it home, take the 3 year old battery to autozone to test and its a bad battery get a new one and hurray the car works for a week.

so here i am today the car wont start again, it cranks fine, put jumper cables and it still wouldnt start, there was moisture from the gas in the carb, and i tested a spark plug wire by putting it close to a ground and it would not spark, so i replace the ignition coil, cranked the car a couple of times and it finally started, drove it for about 2 miles, came back to the car 1 hour later and it wont start again.

i dont know if this is any help but this is pretty much the only after market upgrade that ive put on the car. it wasent a summit brand though but its pretty much all the same.

So you changed the cables and the car died right? If that is the case, check your ground. it might be bad. not the cable it's self, but where you are attaching it to. if you don't have a good ground, then you can not complete the circuit for current to travel. This ground serves as a connection point for your entire vehichal in most cases. If you have a bad ground from your battery to your chassis, you might also have your block grounded to the same point. I have had a 68' Chevelle go up in flames on me because of this.

 

im pretty sure the wires work fine, i crimped and saudered them, and i sanded down to bar metal on the chassis and motor.

It could be:
A poor connection at the 2 pin distributer connector.
Check the 2 connectors to make sure they are getting a good contact. It should not be easy to pull them apart.
I had this problem before and it would start sometimes and then not others.
One thing I noticed when cranking it over at the no start times was the engine would kick when switching the ignition to the off position.
Another thing to check is the ignition wire coming out of the bulk head from the firewall.

im definatley going to go through all the wiring in the car soon, and luckily it hasent not started on me for awhile.
hopefully i can get some relays put in soon too.
