Assistance with a 66 Chrysler 300
 

Hello everyone, and thank you for the friendly welcome in the noob department!

I recently bought a 1966 chrysler 300, that runs, aside from some minor issues, shes pretty decent. biggest issue right now, the steering is loose as a 80 yr old hooker and someone put the wrong (ford???) headers on the car, they were not meant for the 300 obviously because the tubing bends do not work with the other mechanical components of the vehicle.
now currently im having the WORST time trying to find ANY information on this car. its like it existed for 2 seconds and disappeared like a fart in the wind. So i come humbly before you all to seek guidance and whatever help you feel like giving me.

My instincts tell me i should find a Repair manual first which would supply me with wiring diagrams etc, and some helpful information im sure.

next, Where the hell do i get things like new window gaskets? the windows and door gaskets are good as gone and if i wanted to shower when it rained, i would definitely not go for a drive.
is there a place to go where other owners of this car know what the hell is going on with the car?

Im pretty mechanically minded, Ive dealt with old cars before ( 50 merc, 70 Nova, 72 Vega) and i build choppers and i fabricate my own parts. so addressing the issues isn't a problem, but finding replacement parts for this vehicle is a problem.

The console compartment is completely missing its lock or button or whatever used to be there. its just a hole. id like to get a lock on there so it doesnt pop open on every bump! I currently keep a Fat Max extreme on top of it to keep it closed.

At any rate i could go on and on here but if anyone has some links or a trail i can head down for clues, it would be greatly appreciated.

there is a guy in Ohio I believe that has a ton of C-body stuff but I cant remember the who or the where. Maybe someone else on the forum will remember and help out. Steering should not be too tough. You can get rebuilt steering boxes and all the associated steering linkages. Not sure about the rubber mouldings. Maybe steele products might have some of them. For the manuals, check out moparmanuals.com. They have the manual for your car and it is on CD-ROM. (convenient).
The 300's were considered the sporty version of the chryslers. Almost like a muscle car but way more comfortable and luxurious. Actually, the year 1966 300 was a first of the years that chrysler did not attach a letter to the name, The 1965 was known as the 300 L.
The 300 designation came from the HP rating of the hemi that came out in the original 300 in 1955. It was called the 300C. The "C" stood for "coupe". The letters designations get a little confusing because in 1958, they attached the letter "B" to the 300.
I personally think they are great cars. I wish I had one, triple white please! 1966 300 is rreally sweet. It's like if you could go back in time, you would imagine some one like Frank Sinatra would be driving one back then.
