Carburetor Heat Shield (heat dissapator)
 

Anyone know where I can get a Carburetor Heat Shield kit? I need a the heat dissapator and valley pan gasket, I think it's called, for a 1966 Plymouth Satellite. This is for a 2bbl carb and I think it's a Carter carb.

The carb is still the stock one that came on car.

I believe he is referring to the tinfold wrapped insulation that goes under the intake manifold. I make those from pink insulation spray glued to tinfoil and then cut to fit.

It's important to have it as without the manifold will crack. do not forget the small tin plates front and back that go under the steel plates with the 3 bolts. These hold the insulation in even though it barely ever moves.

The intake gaskets come in a box put them inplace dry on the engine block and mark where the head meets the block. Most of these end up being bent wrong here and will need a rebend via some wood. Bent the gasket so it sits correctly. This is important since if it is installed bent wrong there is a good chance it can leak.

Napa and auto value carry the gaskets for the intake and carb.

if you are talking about the engine i think you are. if its the B engine the alunm foil covered fiberglass pack. according to chrysler it is to touch the intake on its bottom and touch pan cover on the bottom, to keep the pan from vibrating and cracking. i think i read that at the allpar site.

My mechanic must not have checked at NAPA and I know that where he usually get's his parts. Will check myself though. I did check Summit and din't find the one for my enigine. Unfortunately, I have the odd ball motor for most Mopars back then. It's the 361ci. I did forget to mention that part, didn't I?! I also called Jegs and they had every one of these ever made, I think, except for a 2bbl!!

NAPA does not have the heat dissipater, but I have found these 2 sites.

Are these not what I need? Mechanic says no, more or less, but I'm not the mechanic, so looking for second opinions. The attached image is from the second link below.

Next question after having talked with mechanic and I'm still on the dissapator subject, how important is it?

I've read at a couple places and mechanic has told me about not having one causing vapor lock, as about the main possible issue.

The valley pan for a 383 is the same part, the 361 and 383 are both low deck B engines, as is the 400.

The valley pan is the easy part. Even Advance Auto has it here!

I have four manifolds with cracks underneath that disagree with you.

My mechanic and the members of the local hot rod club here all agree with what you posted as being non sense!

They all wonder what this has to do with your manifold? Even if you consider the name I know this part by, heat dissapator, it was designed to keep heat away from the carb to prevent vapor lock.

All of the guys in the club also say it was originally designed as a silencer also and when I ask them why is it also called a heat dissapator, they say that is one of the biggest Mopar myths in existence!

Never seen an intake crack. I always head that too, strictly for sould suppression, although it makes sense that it would insulate the heat crossover in the intake to aid in cold weather warmups.
