Distributor leaking oil

Hey guys,

I pulled my distributor to clean it and ever since, it has been leaking oil to a point where it pours onto the exhaust manifold. I'm thinking its just a gasket, but are there any other possible causes?

If you're sure its coming from the Distributor, then its just the O-ring

ok thanks

You are losing timing fluid. Loose too much, and you may become retarded!:D

so its the gasket or the O-ring?

lmao, youll have to excuse scotty, hes just being scotty, actually you need both. the o-ring fits in a grooved slot under the bottom lp of the dist. then there a paper gasket that fits under the dist base when you put it down.

are you a big block?
if i remember correctly, there is no extra gasket, just the o-ring that is on the distributor
either that is bad, or your PCV and breathers are clogged, so the high pressure in the engine is forcing the oil out of the distributor, or the bushings in the distributor are worn out, and the o-ring cant hold back all the oil that is making its way up to it

small block. i re-timed the engine when i replaced the intake, but i dont remember any mounting gasket. Thats most likely the problem.

teh gasket just sits undr the dist. base. its a secondary sealfor it and sets between the block and dist. where as the o-ring seals in the block ,not on top.
