Fresh Start
I have a question about my first start on my engine. Will it hurt my torque converter if I run the engine without tran fluid in the transmission? It’s a 727 trans.
One more qu. I was told to run the engine for 20 minutes at 2000 rpm to brake in the cam. Is this true. And what other brake in methods are there. Thanks to all with any ideas |
Do you plan on running the engine up ...without any trans fluid in at all?
Yes on the way to break the cam and lifters in. |
Yes, I plan on breaking in the engine without tranny fluid
|
Do NOT do that .... you can screw-up the trans and converter.
|
K, thats what I thought. Will need to kick my friends A$$ for that one.
and thank you |
OK so will it damage the torque converter if I dident fill it when I installed it in the transmission. will it prime itself when I start the engine. Or will I need to remove the transmission and fill the torque converter by hand.
|
NO problem ....... just fill-up the trans now. What size converter do you have? ... stock pan ?
|
Yes, its a stock pan. But I'm not sure what size the torque coverter is. It's think it's stock though. It's a 1,800 stall, not sure if that makes a difference? Why do you ask?
Thanks again for the info. |
If you have a deep pan ...and a higher stall converter ....all that matters. I would just put 6 quarts in and run-it-up in neutral. Keep an eye on the ATF level and add as necessary.
|
Cool Thanks
|
Mixer ...ask your "friend" what he thinks would happen to the inside of the converter AND the front pump of the trans ...running the engine without any ATF in there ?? ..
