Gas in oil

Hello all. Got gas in my oil. It is a 1973 plymouth satellite with a stock 318. rebuilt 2 barrel carb and all. pulled dipstick and noticed it was 2 inches to high from where it was. just put engine in car with new oil and filter. the only amount of time it has ran was to do adjustments and warm it up. Maybe 30 minutes max. Idles rough with hesitation when stepped on. That was 3 weeks ago. didnt check oil at that time. found the problem today when resuming where i left off. Guessing the pump is shot. Where do i go from here. pull engine a inspect everything and relube. Or fix problem, change oil and go. The oil looks and feels like slightly dirty gas. Any help would be great. Thanks

Whatever you do, do NOT run the engine until you get the oil changed. IN my lifetime I've been privy to 2 crankcase explosions from leaking fuel pumps

If you have not been "running it hard" you may not have hurt a thing.

Change the fuel pump and the oil.

You should be good to go after that.

Check your float level in your carb and make sure your not pouring fuel down the intake.

Fuel pump and oil change.

Happened to me on my 440.

Carter mechanical pump went out, poured a ton of gas into the sump. And i had just done an oil change that morning...

If you run it with gas in the crank case, bye bye cylinder walls

Thanks everyone for the help. Checked carb first. very little fuel getting to it. Checked the pump next. Took it off and worked it by hand. It leaks. Will change to oil and pump. Then run the oil pump for a bit before starting. Thanks again

I had that happen to my car while just sitting. So look at fuel tank venting also. I suspect heat pressurized the fuel system, and pushed it past the float needle. And then drained into my engine.
