Harmonic Balancer

Hi all,

I was wondering for pulling the HB cast crank if any one knows what the Puller bolt sizes are? Also a hose size to protect the journals when driving out the pistons. One last thing, i'm getting mixed reviews on using a ridge reamer, I've never used one. Should I or will I risk chipping the top of the bore when driving out the pistons if I don't? Thanks guys.

I'm not at home to look but I'm gonna guess it's the pulley bolts and they are either 1/4 or 5/16 NC. I'll grab both and hopefully one will work.

Should be 5/16-18 thread, with the puller Use the Big bolt with the washer removed to pull the damper, screw the bolt in and it will support the tool shaft & slide thru the opening. As to the cyl ridge, reaming should NOT be needed. Use a 3/8 fuel line to protect the rod bolts, put the caps back on so as to not get them mixed up...

Pulley bolts are 5/16"....get you a harmonic balancer puller real cheap. Lynn hit it on the 3/8" fuel line. Do the same when putting it back together. I use the wooden end of a rubber hammer to knock the pistons out. Never damaged a cylinder.

All Cylinders came out with a little trouble from one. Didn't scratch the wall deep though, maybe a couple of thou. I'm gonna pull out the Crank tonight and mic the journals and mains. by the look of the bearings she doesn't look too bad, a couple of wear spots. I'll throw those pics on my album for a second opinon. It'll probably be a while before I get it in for cleaning and machining, being so close to Christmas and all. that will give me more time to research different combo possibilities. I'm probably going to stay away from Edelbrock 750 carb though and go with a 800Cfm Holley. Sounds like the former is a hard one for tuning.

cheers,

Joe Welder
