if the 273 is a forged crank then yes. which i do beleive all 273 do have a forged crank.

Well, wait a minute..........not all 318's use forged cranks, in fact I'd bet many of 'em are cast............

ive never seen a cast crank in a 318, the only cast cranks that i know of in a small block is some 340's and all 360.

have you ever seen a externally balanced torque converter on a 318?

and ill bet there isn't many cast crank 318's if any. maybe in magnums?? but none in pre magnum engines

According to this, plenty of 'em. Cast does not imply "externally balanced."

I've been reading up for my small block rebuild and I have seen in 2 books that 273 cranks through 1967 are forged, '68 and up 273s and 318s were cast, unless ordered in high output or special performance options.

i just read the 273 switched from forged to cast. in Chrysler tech articles.
but i cannot find the 318 crank articles.
i have about 6~8 318"s ranging from 1965~1985 and they all have forged cranks

Well, that gives me hope that I might have a forged crank in my 68.I have a 273 at my disposal, but I think it's a 68 so that won't help from what I've seen.I'm in the process of tearing down my engine now, so I should know what I have in a couple of weeks when I pull the short block and have a looksie.
