Heater Hose
Bought a nice 73 Charger and am just getting to work on it. I noticed that of the two heater hoses going to the firewall, one of them has a quick throw valve installed on it. I am not positive but I am assuming that is the supply line. My first thought was that the heater core leaked. If that were true however, both lines would need shut off or isolated. Only one is. I cannot fathom any reason that someone would have put this valve in place other than maybe a hose leak and instead of buying a new hose they put a valve in there. The problem with that is that the valve is in the most convenient spot for a valve and not at all where a hose would normally develop a leak. I beleive I will be replacing it this weekend but thought I would ask if anyone else had any ideas on that first. Thanks in advance.

Heater valve
It may be that the original heater valve failed and the one you are talking about was installed to shut off heat in warm temps . I have a manual valve on my car as the original controls were missing.
