info on 413 engine?

Dont know much about these motors other than what wiki says about thier bore stroke and horsepower, theres a guy trying to get rid of one from an old mobile home so im wondering how this would perform if i put it in my 1970 fury wich currently has a 318. Would it fit? what will need to be changed to make it work? What kinda gas mileage do they get are they one of those gallons to the mile engines? are there parts readily available for purchase? I dont know alot about the specific engine other than it has the trans attached, plan on getting info on how it was stored and if theres any problems with it.

They are low compression engines and have poor flowing heads and mild cams. Change the Cam and add a pair of good heads and you got a good motor. I'm not sure about the K member on a C body(No experience) but do know the Trans from your 318 will not work. You will need a Big Block 727.

That 413 in the motorhome is not the one you'll find on wikipedia. But MercuryDon made a good point, new cam and heads will help the motor a lot.

413

You can tell if it has the odd water pump as they had ports to the heads, usualy industrial engines. I had a 413 from a motor home and it used a standard big block water pump.
The cam may be gear driven and has a reverse helix drive for the distributor. You will need to get a RB distributor along with cam and timing set.
The heads are probably poor flowing, 452's will work good if your not going for high performance.Mercury Don is right about the transmission.

Oil Pan too

Yes - they are all correct, just finished one like this to put in my 1968 Belvedere. Upgraded(?) from a 273 with a 904. Here are some of my pitfalls and or upgrades.

Oil Pan and pickup
Water Pump and housing
Heads - had mine milled for a bit higher compression
Cam, lifters Mopar purple
and push rods - your old ones will not work, need new ones
Pulleys and brackets- all of them, look for a donor car

Your intake will work, not sure if you have the Holley that came with it. Weird motorcraft - I changed to an AVS, but you will need an electric choke one.

Radiator, I used mine from the 273, runs good but will/would upgrade when I get the bigger support in

Drive line - would assume you will need to modify this, I went from a 904 so my yoke and length needed to be changed. If you have a sure grip, good time to do it now.

Also, I would advance the cam for low end. As for gas mileage, not sure since I drive it like I stole it most of the time. Power, lots of it and fun to drive. Would I do it again - if mopor was given to me, otherwise NO. I used the Schumacher Headers and mounts, great product. mopar performance electrical (bought distributor at Napa, box and wires from Summit, better price than full blown kit)

Also, if you have the motor home tranny, you will need to change the rear shaft and housing - I would talk with tflite_patty on ebay, he is the best person to deal with. Hope this helps

AND - Throttle brackets and kickdown - you will need a four barrel throttle bracket. You should be able to use your kickdown from the 318, I did but went with a reverse pattern manual body kit - that will be for another post
