lifter adjustment on 318 poly engine

G'mornin', I need the clearance specs to adjust the solid lifters on our '66 Belvedere 318 poly 2bbl. engine. Maybe a hot and cold setting. I know there's a sequence to determine which ones to set as you rotate the engine. I have old MOTOR'S repair manuals but the'yre in storage. The engine has 1 lifter that's particularly noisy and I'm tired of listening to it. Thanks in advance for the info.
P.S.------ Pretty pleased wth the poster. They made it from a picture they took when we registered for a show last month. Had a coice of backgrounds for the poster and they used a palm tree to cover me up driving the car-----more marvels of modern technology!

valve lash/66 poly engine

First get the engine to operating temp, then adjust.

The clearance for the intake valve is .013.
The clearance for the exaust valve is .021.

You could make a chalk mark on the damper for every 90 degrees of crank rotation using the 0 mark [on the compression stroke] as the first one of the four marks. Than adjust the valves starting with the first in the firing order. Rotate 90 degrees and adjust the next in the firing order and so on until all are adjusted.

The firing order for the Polysphere motor is the same as the newer 318's.

THANKS! Auto parts place is supposed to have valve cover gaskets Monday. I'll probably mess with it tomorrow-------- it was HOT here today, 90+deg. feels like Aug.

Valve lash

I know this thread is old but, I was looking for valve lash settings. I thought I would throw in my 2 cents. If the intake is off your poly motor you can actually see the cam clear as day, except one lobe on each end. I simply turned the motor over for each lobe until I could see the peak of the lobe was on the opposite side of the lifter. Pretty simple if the intake is off. Hope that is helpful.

been years for me. but you can do it cold. just add .001-.002 to the exth valve. the intake should be fine at the regular setting. chrysler many years ago had a sticker that showed which valves to set when the cam is at a cretin spot. the max wedge racers know about it.
