Mobile Home 413

So I bought a 413 engine/Tranny combo from a guy. What am I going to have to get to get it into the 74 Charger.

I picked up a couple Mopar Mags, and there a section about engine mount adapters in one of them. What Adapter am I going to need to get the engine to mount in correctly?

Also, will I be able to use the Tail Shaft off of the SB Tranny on the BB tranny? or am I going to be running into breakage issues?

I think all that you will need is the correct motor mounts.
The chargers are B body cars and they used the same K frame for the bigblocks as they did for the smallblocks. You will probably need to get them from Shumacher be cause the insert will be easy to find but the mount itself is not sold at any large auto parts chains [auto zone etc], they just sell the rubber inserts that wear out for the mounts. You may be able to find them at a junk yard [look for any B body from 73-78 with a bigblock] A Chrysler Cordoba with a 400 would be one popular example.
The motor mounts would be the original application for a 400/440 equipped charger.{or any other B-body of that year} [ spool type ] If you have the 727 trans, you can use the tail shaft but I bet you have the 904 since it is shorter.
Sorry, you will need to use the tail shaft that is from a 727 trans [goes along with the bigblock] which most likely is the long shaft. You will need to get the correct length driveshaft or have yours shortened. Hope all this helps....ENJOY!!!

amusingly enough. When I purchased the car, the guy gave me the long shafted Transmission.

I dont think, however I included enough information. The engine/transmission combo came out of an RV. The engine mounts dont look at all the same. I can take pictures and put them up here if that would help.

What year is this 413? Hopefully it is not the industrial version with the weird heads. If it is the 'regular version' it should work. (block must have 'ears' on its sides for the motor mounts)
You are correct, the RV mounts wont work, that is why you must find the mounts from the example (Cordoba with bigblock). They will take the place of the mounts you have now {if you can find them} You can also get them from Shumacher Creative Services {on the net} brand new. {probably the better deal as they have the new style of rubber already installed}

By the way, hold on to that transmission and use it. The motor home transmissions are stronger than the car transmissions.

All that is required is to get the driveshaft shortened

Okays. I've sourced the RB engine mounts that will bolt into my car.

Now to get working on the performance aspect of the engine. Any idea's on where to go for a rebuild kit?

What are my options for the heads? ( any chance I could put a wedge style head on it? )

Engine is out of a 73 Winne

OKay, I have a question...

I was recently presented with an option to buy a '65 413 4 bbl and mated auto trans out of a 65 Chrysler 300. 59K original miles, runs good and the guy is an old mechanic and vouches for condition of motor/trans.

He wants what I feel is a very fair price for the combo.

The big question here is this: Is this worth putting into my 67 Belvedere? I considered building a big block this winter anyway. I was thinking a mild-tear down and gasket kit, send the heads off for hardened seats.

I already have the small block K member. The car needs a front end kit, and sway bars anyway. Due for a disk brake swap upfront anyway too.

Thoughts?

Pre-65 would not have hardened valve seats since they ran leaded gas back then.

Moot point, as I veiwed the motor today and it is not only NOT a 65 300L motor with weird cable linkage on the 727...it's also out of a motorhome. I'm in same boat as xynicgreven.

Anyone know the performance factors of this motor/trans?

hhmmmmmm something to consider then....I think I am damn lucky woman...friend of a friend of a friend put me in contact with yet another hoarder today...

and he likes me.

THIS man has three 413's sitting in two 63 and a 64; all 300 and Imperials. I'm going to miss most of a day off work, he promised it's worth it to wander the acreage of cars he's hoarded over the years. I'll see what he's willing to part with and let you guys know. He's been "collecting" since the 50's. Also has a bunch of Dodge Army trucks and jeeps; he's starting to sell a few off.

Both! Or maybe you can see my car's bumpers in my pics? I'll have to look. I'm concerned that the previous owner just put random stuff on this car. Ugh. Trying to do what I can. Thanks!

you can buy lead additive for the fuel so your seats wont get hurt.
