My son is thinking of getting a 2021 or 2022 RAM 1500 Hemi to tow his trailer. We aren't concerned about the truck's ability to pull the trailer, but rather the tongue weight. The weight he estimates is 900-1000lbs. Will the 1500 handle this and if not can you add any solid aftermarket component(s) to make it happen?

That’s a lot of tongue weight for a half ton. I believe tongue weight is ten percent of trailer weight. So if your pulling a ten thousand pound trailer trailer that has a thousand pound tongue you need 2500 3/4 ton or 3500 one ton.

 

yeah, i wouldnt try that with a half ton!
