REAR MAIN SEAL 318
 

Hey all i am building a 318 cast in 79 i have the rear main seal and it has two tangs off either side of the seal for the rear cap. The cap has small cut outs that look like they are there to receive both of these tangs but i have been told to cut them off and if i dont the rear seal will leak. It looks like it is engineered to receive the two tangs but i am not sure.

does anyone know what the right answer is the manual i have does not address it

That is good. I always left them on and never had a problem with them leaking.
