Is this bad? Rocker shaft, 383
Okay, in the ongoing epic to get my RR running right I removed the intake and valve covers to reseal the intake and check if there was a cam problem. While I did notice some marks on the cam, there were no marks on the lifters. However, I did notice that the rockers on the shaft were very sloppy. There is a gap of over .045" between the shaft and the rocker bore{as measured by pushing the rocker to one side and measuring the gap on the other}. Is this normal Mopar stuff? Car has been running poorly, starts rarely ,idles too rich and havent been able to adjust the carb. All help welcome. BTW, there are also 1/8" spacers between each pair of rockers, my friend said I should also have springs there? Am I missing something?

no thats normal, the spacers are supposed to be there. but no springs, between them. the only time the rocker wot slide side to side is when the piston is at tdc for that cyl. I would d a comp check to see if some of the valves are hanging up, IE weak springs, wht carb do you have?

I have a 750 speed demon, but upon further exam we found a burr on the lifter end of the #2pushrod,and we still have the 0.045 gap on the rocker arms, between them and the shaft. Also found that some of the valve stem tips were camfered and some were mushroomed. Ithink we have areal problem. Since I'm laid of now, and the budget doesent allow anything more than sand paper and oil, I think we're at a standstill now
