My usual ramblings.

What do I think of it?

There is very little in the way of performance parts for this engine series, so I wouldn't quibble. You could probably look a long time and do not better.

Aluminum can be pretty difficult to clean, because it is porous. I would clean it the best you can, degrease it, and paint it to match your engine.

I once bought a new Edlebrock for my 440 when the then brand new just released "Tarantula" manifolds came out. (I should'ha waited for the Torker) Anyhow, I painted that damn thing about 10 quarts of oragane paint right off the shelf, but nearly 10 years later, the last I saw of it, it still looked great. The paint filled up the pores and it looked more like a factory piece. Even fooled a few people who "didn't know"

go to your auto store and buy you a gallon can of (GUNK) carb and parts cleaner and pour into the manifold and let sit then do what frankyb says

I must have missed that part about it being an alloy. Have you thought about getting it acid washed by a machine shop?
