2006 PT Cruiser oil galley plug
 

Does anyone have a shop manual or parts listing for the 2.4L engine? Specifically I am looking for the PN for the rear oil galley plug located on the rear of the block just behind the oil pressure sensor. I rebuilt my engine which included a rebore and hot tank and of course the shop removed all the freeze plugs and oil galley plugs in the process. For some reason I did not have a new oil galley plug for the rear of the engine (I either lost it or it was missing from the rebuild kit). I installed a 5/8" Dorman plug that I got at my local parts store, but it wasn't a tight fit and the oil pressure pushed it out as soon as I started the engine. So I installed a second one, this time coated and covered with JB weld but it still leaks so I am assuming the JB weld didn't hold. I have never had any luck with that stuff.

I also ordered an engine plug kit that came from Engine Tech; the picture showed two small plugs but the kit only had the larger freeze plugs so I guess the photo on their site was just a generic one.

I have searched some Mopar parts sites but all they show is a plug for the front of the engine. Email questions have not provided an answer either and I have not been able to locate an original PN listing. Are the front and rear oil galley plugs the same? And if so, does anyone have the OEM part no and possibly correct dimension (diameter)? I don't want to drop the trans again until I know I have the right part. And before anyone suggests it, I did check the crankshaft seal when I installed the new plug and it was not leaking. That was my first thought.

I'm Sure its not much at your local Chrysler Dealer and you should get the rite part the first time.... Just my 2 cents

I tried that once but the guy didn't know anything, and didn't stock the part and didn't seem all too interested in helping. Some parts guys are just that, Parts Guys, and know little other than what their computer tells them. No offense to any parts guys out there, I know some darn good ones too! I guess I can try a couple other Chrysler dealers and see if I can find someone that will help. I was thinking about contacting the machine shop that did the engine work also. In the meantime, if anyone does have an OEM part number, please send it. And you are right, it is inexpensive, the Dorman one I bought was a whopping $.89 plus I spent about ten bucks on a "kit" that didn't contain one. The worst part about this is having to remove the transmission and flywheel to get to it; which I have already done twice.

Ya ... But the labor take you to fix it is not fun to keep doing. I'll look and see if I can come up with a number. Got a picture of where it goes?

I don't have a picture, but it is located on the rear of the block in the upper right corner if you are facing the rear of the block, just behind the oil sending unit. It is about 5/8" diameter and it is not a threaded plug, I wish it were. I bought a Dorman 5/8" plug but it doesn't fit tight enough as I mentioned, so it must be slightly larger than 5/8" perhaps 16 or 16.5mm?

And you are rite, everyone wants to stop looking after they find the 5/8" plug... I see those mostly listed for the 3.4L
I do see What your looking for. You my just have to go see a few engine shops to find one, I hate to say.
But I see the hole rite behind the oil pressure switch on the back of the block....
Maybe our vendor CarID can jump in and add to a source?

Yep, its the larger of the two circles in the diagram. I appreciate you looking. I think I will try the machine shop where I had the work done, if they don't have it, I can try another big engine rebuilding shop in Albuquerque that I have dealt with.
