318 Magnum Cam Trouble

Hello everyone,

I have a 72 Cuda project that I am working on at the moment. I have a 440-500 stroker that will eventually go into it, but I want to daily drive the car for a little bit and have some fun with it. I live on campus, and my job is very close, so it won't be much of a problem, but being in college and broke, I bought a cheap 318 that came with a crosswind intake so that I could convert it to a carb setup without to much trouble. The only problem and question I have at the moment, the camshaft I am using for this rebuild, is basically a stock 340 H.P cam and has the longer L.A snout that you would install an eccentric washer on. I won't be running an eccentric because the magnum timing cover doesn't have an inlet for a pump, so I am going to use an electric pump inline with a regulator. There still is some wiggle room after installing the cam gear and I don't have the eccentric washer..... considering they are a little pricey to drop money on something that won't run a pump I was wondering what you guys would do at this point so that I can tighten the cam gear down without rigging it and jeopardizing the cam bolt torque...any kind of shim, washers...etc that I can use to install this timing gear correctly on the cam? Thanks, guys!

Grade 8 Washers that fit the diameter of the cam and Dremel a tight notch into them...and shim the cam up to the Actual cam bolt and washer??

Best regards,

Jacob

I have noticed that I can fit the larger cupped washer over the end of the cam....holding the cam gear in place but their still is about 1/16 of space between the actual gear and the cupped washer?

I would make something just a little more Heavy Duty....
