440 cam selection
 

i did some searches here and found nothing similar if Im wrong point me in right direction

I am rebuilding my 440 had an oil psi problem turnout to be bearing related have crank machined and all new bearings cam bearings etc. While its apart I am going to change the cam I have now the 509 purple cam 109 lsa hydrolic. I like the way the engine runs and the power I get from just looking to see if a newer style cam might give me better drive ability Im sure you understand that. Run down is 73 cuda stock weight 390 gears 4spd. 440 .030 dome pistons 11:1 with 440 source heads modified mostly clean up bowls pinch area and valve job. torquer 2 intake with 850 xp holley. Hooker headers and 3 in exhaust out back. Im going to switch to mech cam with slightly less duration 235 to 240 area I have 3 cams I am looking at purple cam 528 lift 241 duration @ .050 which claims 2200 to 6600 112 lsa which I really like then comp cam split pattern 240/246 .507/.510 lift 110 lsa then hughes cam 238/242 .558/.564 109 lsa has anyone had experience with these cams I believe the purple cam will have the broadest power band I have never used a hughes cam before seams to have the highest lift but 109 lsa might kill driveability again

I can't help much the smallest cam I've used in over thirty years is the mopar mech 557. The only reason I used it was it was on the shelf. I thought it would make a good 4 speed cam with the correct gears.
I know a lot of guys like the mopar 528 cam that have used it. I like a mechanical cam with 245 ish duration @ 50 for the street but don't forget to check valve clearance.
