440 oil cooler questions
I'm building a 440-to-543 stroker. I'll leave the bulk of the build's information out of this topic for the moment.
I plan on installing an oil cooler, but have never really messed with oiling systems before. I'm running an aftermarket, external oiling system by either Milodon or Melling, and had some questions: 1. I've seen oil coolers run off of a filter adapter, is this really the optimal set-up, or is there a better way? 2. Could I run an oil cooler off of the oil pump itself if I have the required fittings installed? (for example: from the oil pan pickup to oil cooler, then from the oil cooler back to the to oil pump?) 3. Does anyone make a kit in either of these configurations? 4. Is there anything I'm missing here? |
Sound to me like the question should be. Do you need the cooler for what your trying to do?
But yes you can run a cooler. I would suggest talking with the pump MFG. They know the best solution for what your going to need with there product. Most likely. My suggestion would be to put the cooler after your remote oil Filter or Filters adapter and then back to the pan. |
I had part of a factory one It had a 2th tap or maybe a T at the oil pressure sender tap and a line running from the cooler to a special fuel pump bolt that was hollow and allowed the oil to drain back into the pan

Thanks for your reply! |

Right, I was thinking aftermarket block too. After my current engine was finished I regretted going with an aluminum aftermarket block. Not the type of part you can change after the fact.

:) Basically everything is planned out except for the oil routing and cooling, but I've almost got a handle on that aspect. I still have some questions and concerns about the final stages though, such as header clearances after the swap and stuff. You can also PM me if you'd like, and I'll reply when I have the chance! |
Cool.....
I like open topics..... This is a great site... Most will add a good 2 cents if they have one to throw in. But if it gets sideways.. Will PM.... My box get full way to fast ...lol |
