Hi,

First post on Mopar Forums which I hope to have plenty more of.

I am wanting to purchase a 528ci Crate engine for my project over here in Australia.

I have been looking at the Indy Heads line with interest.
But on some searching I have found out there is a lot of negative talk about there engine building skills. Is this still the case as the posts I have seen are a few years old?

If the above is true who else would be recommended for me to check out?

I haven't ruled out buying all the components and having it built over here but I like the sound of unpacking the right engine and installing it straight up.

I need to know that the builder - supplier is genuine and reliable as I have a friend over here who ordered a Chev Indy Car engine off a very well know engine builder in the US who hasn't come up with the goods after a very large sum of money was exchanged. I don't want to have the same issues!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Fly

Well, if you had you sights set on Indy products, then I can assume price is not an issue! I cant say anything about Indy products, other than they must be made out of Gold and Unobtainium, due to their prices. My opinion is that near identical performance and reliability can be found from much more affordable sources. A local boy by me, Mike, at Muscle Motors is a big player in the stoker motor field. He often contributes to Mopar Muscle Magazine. And I think one of his motors is a giveaway prize at one of this years big Mopar meets. Here's his site http://www.musclemotorsracing.com/ I'm sure he can deliver you a reliable, turn-key, dyno-proven motor for a reasonable price. Cheers Mate!

Thanks Coronet 500 & scotts,

I have been in touch with Mike at MRL Performance and I must say he has been extremely helpful with all my questions etc.

Also, so I have found out he has built a number of different Mopar, Hemi engines for guys over here in Australia.

He has vast experience with these engines and is also a Accel DFI accredited supplier, technician so I think I have found my builder.

He has quoted me a very high end quality engine just the way I want it. Plenty of Guaranteed HP with the backing of quality assembly & parts.

I was right about Indy Heads being a not so reliable crate engine but there products are top notch so mine will have some of there items.

Thanks again.

Good on ya Fly! Ya gonna have it dyno'd and broke in before it ships? I would. That Aussie dollar is about on-par with the US dollar now. You guys must be lovin' it! Cheers.

Yes will be all set up and ready to go. :-)

Yeah our dollar is buying $1.074 over there at the moment. Internet sales etc are booming.

Problem is I won't be getting it built in the near future as car is only in planning stage. Hopefully the $ will hold…lol

When I was there, back in 01 and 02, it was like .85 AU on the US dollar. I had me bike there and rode around the East coast of Oz and Tazzi for about 6 weeks. We lived like kings! It was like Mexico, but you all spoke English!

:-) Yes I guess you would have. Hope you enjoyed our wonderful country.
I have been to the USA once. Was back in 07. Went over there for work trip so didn't get to see very much. Hope to get back over there very soon.
I am waiting on a payout from a accident I had, then I will be there. I have my eye on a custom bobber built by Darwin Motorcycles in Oklahoma that I want to buy. New custom and a few weeks to explore would be fantastic I reckon. :-)

Good on ya! I'll have to look them up and see what they make. What model is it? My current ole' skool ride is a 53 rigid, with a 73 shovel, kick-only. Forks are +6, apes, sissy bar, etc. Profile wise, it looks like the Easy-Rider bike, but it is all flat-black and bare aluminum. Just waiting on the coin for a 3" open primary.
Enjoyed the hell out of Oz! Hope to retire there. Love the feeling of community that we seem to have lost here.
