Hey Guys
I believe I saw somewhere on here about upgrading the power steering bracket from the federal type to the saginaw - Ive got the federal pump with the crappy bracket? anybody know the part number of the pump I need to run 383 no A/C application with this bracket?

i had a 300 L the bracket was made to pivot at the bottom. this was so that under a steering load it would tighten the belt. it would move a little. there was a rubber bumper so it would not be metal to metal. i could set it so it moved a lot and the belt would still not fly off. i dont know your trouble. but if yours is like mine and the bracket bangs metal to metal. you might only need the rubber bumper.

Yes I think your talking about the same thing. I guess I understand the original intent of the design but 50 years later this thing just flops and wobbles all around - which MUST result in lost horses - Im not trying to build a race car but would like to reign all the power I can
the pump itself and the pulley appear fine so if I can just upgrade the bracket to eliminate the wobble and flop and save some
that would be ideal......hahaha
Nooooooooo....that's what I want to avoid - Im doing all I can to remove previous owners afro-engineerings! DOH! SO that just seems it would be going backwards. The Federal bracket in the link above appears to be different than mine - so curious if anyone has installed and can report
or is swapping to the Saginaw type the only solution to getting a securely mounted bracket?

Sag on a 65 383
I run a Sag on my 65 Fury 383 because they are probably the best pups out
there. The bracket I used was Item #: MREHFPS001 from Mancini but you can get it at a lot of places a bit cheaper. I like the way the pump sits low and if you can believe it, I didn't even have to buy a new belt. When you use this bracket with a Sag ( old or new style ) the pump mounts solid and the belt remains tensioned.

Rooty sure has a sweet setup. good to see people doing things right. my 1967 dart / charger factory manual shows two pumps one is .96--1.2 model. the other is .94. the housings are different. the valving is different to. but no detail on how to identife which is which. the numbers call out the pump volume in Cu. in. per revolution. .94 pump 900--1000 psi. 1.2 pump 900-1000 psi. for fury 2-3 318 engine. 1.2 pump fury 2-3 all except 318 engine 1000--1100 psi. .96 pump 2.5--1.8 GPM. 1.2 PUMP 1.75--2.25 GPM.
well i didnt list the info very well. its just pump sizes and pressures. the pump volume goes up with engine RPM. and the pump has a control valve that limits the pressure. else the pump would blow up. the pumps on car steering sys are low pressure and volume. not good for much else. not at all like industrial pumps. i have worked on pumps that are as much as 7000-8000 psi. and 40-50 Gal per min. hint if you want to flush the pump out under power, DONT use solvent of gasoline they dont have any lubrication and will jam / melt the pump. DO use reg oil that is for the pump.

Since my pump and pulley do seem to be functional, and I have plenty of other things to spend money on at the moment, I think I might just go this route.
AS far as I can tell from the picture of it - it does seem to be a different (better) design than the OE bracket - Is that the case?
Are you running this bracket? do you happen to have a pic on how it looks assembled on car?
as far as firm to light. it is controlled mostly by the gear box. if the pump working right. the pump only supply's power. i think chrtysler made some boxs to be fast turn. remember AAR cudas? there are some shops that totaly rebuild the boxs. but cant remember who.
