86 dodge ram 360 timeing adjustments

Hello Mopar Fans, I have a few Questions about fine tuneing my 1986 dodge ram 360. To start off with this engine has installed on it headers and weiand stealth intake, which is a mid-hi rise intake, and a holley 670 street avenger carb. This is all supplied fuel by a holley red electric pump. Back dureing the summer I installed a 1 inch spacer under the carb.

My Question is I installed all of this and the timeing is still at its factory 12 degrees btdc setting, It should be adjusted but which way ? My second Question is about the spacer under the carb, should I use an open spacer or a 4 hole spacer. The intake is a dual plane and this motor is supposed to be set up for low to mid range power. Also can someone reccommend a good spark plug for this engine. Thanks

I time my engines by ear and feel. Advance it till it runs nice, back it off when it starts to ping (loaded, WOT). I run a 4 hole spacer on my dual plane, my understanding is that it promotes a stronger vacuum signal and allows the intake to work as designed. Maybe someone else could chime in on this though.

dual plane manifold should use a 4 hole spacer. with a single plane it wouldn't matter as much It keep the fuel & CARB cooler 12 deg should be plenty, 15 maybe if it doesn't ping. make sure the vacuum advance is disconnected & plugged when adjusting and that you have the vacuum line hooked up to ported vacuum NOT full time vacuum
