cam to make 400rwhp

I will be hand porting my heads myself. been watching enough videos and reading enough books to do it myself. got a pair of spare heads to practice on. any how. with heads and intake port matched, 750 cfm 4bbl carb, hooker headers, 3.73 gearing 4 speed. looking for a camshaft to compliment it to make atleast 400hp. right now I got a purple cam. believe the specs are 268/268 474/474 why is the lift so low? was looking at a lunati 276/289 513/533 110

As to the cam choice. If everything else is good/great? You could probably do well with something similar to the Mopar 292/509 to accomplish 400hp at the flywheel.

I'd call it mild, but it's a safe street cam that will wake up that little 340.

Very driveable/giddyup for a stick car.

I would recommend you only blend the bottom seat cut to the port/runner walls. Without intimate knowledge of the LA head, any more and you can do as much harm as good!(FLOW LOSS)!!!

To port/gasket match the intake, you must test fit it first with all gaskets to ensure the manifold sits down on/compresses the front and rear gaskets!

400 rwhp is more like 450-475 at the crank. home ported heads and a cam swap isn't getting you there

While it may not be at it's best at some compression ratios, I believe it will work at a variety of CR'S

You must take into consideration that most if not all as stock engines are no where near their advertised build specifications or CR's

Ran 14.79 in a 3567 lb E - body/3.55:1 gear, with this cam in a box stock (30,000 mile)318 - 8:1 CR short block (taken from my wife's Volare) with oiling mods and "U" 2.02 heads and 6 Pack.

Worked just fine.

Unless a full on Stock Eliminator engine with stock, iron unported heads, iron intake and stock thermoquad.lol

Reread op 1st post quotes 400 hp. Gets a little confusing with thread title.

Sorry for any confusion I was just looking for a cam to fit the mods done. As for the heads I am going to gasket match it. And just open the ports up not touching to much inside, just going to clean and smooth it out a little. Will be using 80 grit sand paper instead of carbide bits. May take longer but it will be safer.
