Car only starts full throttle. 71 dart 318 new carb timing set perfectly.
I bought a new edelbrock installed new intake manifold gaskets. Set timing properly. She idles and accelerates fine. Just to start I have to floor it?

Before installing new carb it would just fire up. But I know the timing was off then. It’s electric choke.can I adjust the electric choke? It does this fully warmed up haven’t cold started it yet. Just got the carb today. Drive to parts store and installed it there . I might put old one back on. See what it does.possibly the carb is too big? Idk it idles and drives way better now.

Is this a Edelbrock carb? If so they are very prone to boiling the fuel in the carb.

What happens is the fuel in the carb boils out after the car is shut off. If you listen you can actually here the fuel percolating in the bowls so when you go to start it it needs to crank over to get more fuel to start.
i cant say thia is definitely the problem with yours but the Edelbrock carbs don't like today's fuels so it happens. |
I have an electric fuel pump. So I’ll try letting it fill then pump it a few times see what happens.

It’s always been my understanding that if it’s flooded you floor it while cranking. It seems as though that’s what’s going on. Idk my old carb was edelbrock too.

It could be that the choke is set to tight try backing it off. This is done at the black plastic cup just loosen the three screws and turn it a quarter inch or so.

It fires right up cold. Letting the float bowls fill and pumping doesn’t fix warm starts. Still requires full throttle to start.

After the car has been driven and parked.... Pull the air cleaner off and look down the air horn of the carburetor and look for vapors coming out of the air horn.... Then look down the air horn and see if you see fuel dripping?
